What to expect in our Sunday Services

The Sunday morning service starts at 11.00am and runs to 12.30pm with a time for socialising over a coffee/tea afterwards. We begin with contemporary worship (mix of modern and older songs played on guitar, for approximately 20-30 mins). Standing up, sitting down, clapping, dancing and waving flags are no problem; feel free to worship God in the way that is comfortable to you! During the worship time we collect up the weekly offering. If you are a visitor you are not expected to put money in the collection so don’t feel embarrassed if you don’t want to contribute. However, if you want to give, please do! All the money is used for the glory of God !!!!

Don’t be surprised if we sing a children’s song with actions at the end of this worship time…. We want everyone to be involved !!!

Notices are normally given at some point during the service along with any prayer requests being made know to the congregation. We often have a time that allows people from the congregation to speak up about any positive, wonderful stories of God answering prayer or interacting in people’s lives, which will be of benefit to the rest of us! It’s great to hear what God is doing and encourages us no end!!!

The children then go out of the service into the minor hall for X-Cite, where they will sing songs, learn Bible stories and get involved in various fun activities such as craft. The Children are often encouraged to share what they have learned and/or made when they re-join the main meeting at around 12.30pm. All our staff are CRB checked. We also have an unsupervised creche during the services.

We have communion on most weeks which is given as juice in little cups with flat bread (crackers) (we use juice rather than wine). Before this, we encourage a time of reflection over Jesus’ sacrifice for us and our own relationship with Him. This is for believers of any denomination. If you are not a Christian please just pass the bread plate/wine cup tray on; but we would still love to speak to you about the significance of communion so please feel free to ask after the service or via other contact (i.e. email phone etc.)

On the third Sunday morning of each month we hold our ‘family Service’. In this service we allow an opportunity for members of the congregation to bring and present pre-arranged ‘items’ to the rest of us. This could be, a song, a story for children, a report on what God has been doing in someone’s life (sometimes called a testimony), a Bible quiz, a poem, Scripture reading etc. We believe wholeheartedly in all parts of the ‘Body’ (members of the church) being given opportunity to take part in the process of ‘building one another up’ and having an input !!! If you would like to share something then feel free to come and talk with the Leaders before the service.

After this meeting we have a bring and share lunch with each other…. We love eating with each other !!

Afterwards we have a Bible based sermon/talk of about half an hour or less.

Please stay for tea or coffee at the end of the service.

As a church we believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and so encourage singing in tongues, prophesy, words of knowledge etc. We would ask that if you are not known to us, that you would share any word etc. with one of the leaders first before sharing it with the church.

Whilst prayer is available at any time from leaders in the church we also are happy to be approached at the end of the meeting for specific prayer; this may also be followed up at other times if you feel the need for further prayer in a more discreet setting.

CROSSOVER

CROSSOVER is the title we have given to our evening meeting from 6.00 to 7-7.30pm. In this meeting we generally run various alternative spiritual activities and it’s a great environment for non Christians as we tend to have a café style format. Every month we have a discussion based meeting allowing opportunities for interaction from all present in their individual table groups. This is a great way to be able to voice your opinions and for people to learn together about the relevance of Christianity in our day.

Once a month we generally show a DVD which may be a documentary on some topic of Christian interest or a movie which may be fiction or non fiction, but will be of encouragement to those present.

We also often have guest speakers and worship bands either from other Swansea churches or further beyond, as well as regular contribution from TRIBE who are a Swansea based youth group that bring amazing stories of God in action amongst the young people.

Once a month we have a prayer focus which may be centred around world events such as the recent situation in Sudan, the needs of the city, church activities and/or just praying for each others needs and encouragement.

Also, as we’re a seaside church, when we know we’re going to have a really warm and sunny evening, we look to move our meeting down onto the beach or the grassy area by the Civic centre which is only a few minutes walk down Argyle Street. If we do this we will make sure a notice is put up on the church just so you know where we have got too!

Finally, as we recognise that we’re part of the church at large (described in the Bible as the ‘Body of Christ’) we engage with other churches and their meetings quite often and take part in the Swansea Hope and UNITAS (Swansea West Central Churches) churches together activities wherever possible; check our monthly bulletin to see ‘What’s On’.
